A paramedic rapid response car crashed into a telegraph pole while on an emergency call on the A379.
It happened opposite the Ladybirds Day Nursery in Brixton at about 3.45pm on Friday, August 23.
The pole came down into the street, blocking the road in both directions and closing it for more than four hours.
The driver was not injured in the crash and the ambulance service says it is investigating what happened.
A South Western Ambulance Service Trust spokesman said: “The vehicle was on its way to a call.
“An ambulance was also travelling to the same incident, so there were no implications for the patient.
“Fortunately, there were no injuries to the driver. We are investigating what happened.”
Police and the fire service attended the scene and traffic was diverted at Red Lion Hill while repairs were carried out and recovery took place.
A Devon and Cornwall Police spokeswoman said that the road reopened at about 8pm.
