A farmer had a lucky escape after being chucked out of a tractor, before it smashed into a shed.

After falling out of his tractor, Jason Hutchings from Dartmouth, who was lucky to be alive, watched as the large vehicle carried on without him, crashing into a shed with cattle in.

The day started off normally for Jason at Churston Farm in Brixham, as he got on with lambing commitments, checking the cattle and cultivating the land ready to plant corn. After spreading fertiliser on the corn fields and needing to load up again, Jason headed back to the farm down the track.

“Then all of a sudden unexpectedly, the front weight of the tractor came off and went under the tractor” making it tip violently to the left, he explained.

“I tried grabbing hold of the hand throttle to keep myself from being chucked out but that didn’t work and the tractor chucked me through the glass door. I ended up in a heap on the track.

While recovering from his fall, Jason looked up to see the “tractor smashing into the shed”.

“I got to my feet and ran down to the shed where the tractor crashed through to check on the cattle.” Fortunately, Jason said the cattle were all fine.

He and another tractor driver made the scene safe and waited for the emergency services to arrive, which they did quickly.

Jason was very pleased with how the emergency services responded earlier this week.

“Everyone moans about the emergency services and the NHS, but when you really need them they are there.” He said a big thank you to Torbay Hospital and all the people that helped him that day and the few days after.

“I’m very lucky to come away with my life and only have cuts and bruises.”
