Exciting events are set to take place in the refurbished Bridgetown Community Hall in the coming months, which promise to set the venue abuzz with activity.

Bridgetown Alive! has joined forced with CIC Be Buckfastleigh to bring a range of free activities to the hall in a bid to help people to be active, creative and social. Claire Allford of Bridgetown Alive! said: “The sessions are being funded from various small grants to help build community connection and friendships and thereby improve lives, especially up in the top of Bridgetown where there aren’t a lot of indoor spaces for community activity. “Bridgetown Alive! Is always working towards building community and improving the lives of those living there especially in the aftermath of the pandemic and the current cost of living crisis.” The free sessions include mindful making, plus creativity and conversation – both aimed at offering enjoyable arts and crafts for wellbeing - as well as a CV writing workshop to help those looking for a new job or who wish to re-enter the workplace, a ‘living well with pain’ lunch club, and a hands on one pot cookery workshop to nspire people to make cheap, tasty meals.

There will also be container gardening sessions where participants can learn how to grow culinary herbs and salads in interesting and unusual pots, inspiring yoga sessions with Ruth Brooks, simple sewing/upcycling sessions with The Mend Assembly, pizza sessions with Pizza Pirates, plus a regular film club and a Tuesday morning community café.

Claire added: “It’s great to see the hall in use so much as it’s a brilliant community resource. “We would love to see the places on these events full too as it shows the demand is there, which we know it is. So please help us spread the word, especially to those who might not normally have the means or the confidence to join such sessions. “Bridgetown Alive would like see a stronger, more thriving community here in Bridgetown and this is one way to help create these connections between people.” Be Buckfastleigh CIC aims to help tackle health, social, and economic inequalities in Buckfastleigh and other small local towns, aiming to make them thriving and inclusive places for everyone, especially those in most need of support.
