A picturesque South Devon waterfall has been named as one of the top 10 most beautiful waterfalls in the UK.

Becky Falls on Dartmoor was named the 9th most impressive waterfall in the country by Go Outdoors.

An attraction near Manaton, Becky Falls, or Becka Falls as it used to be known, sits within a woodland park that features lovely family walks and family activities such as competitions and a Meet the Meerkats experience.

The falls mark a natural centrepiece to the site as the water cascades over boulders to a roughly 20metre drop.

Number one on the list was High Force waterfall in County Durham which at some 22 metres high, isn’t the tallest of England’s waterfalls, but it does have the highest volume of water falling over an unbroken drop.

Also in the top 10 are St Nectan’s Glen, Cornwall; Scotland’s Falls of Glomach in Ross-shire and Steall Falls in Glen Nevis Scotland; Wales’ Pistyll Rhaeadr in Powys and Waterfall Country in the Brecon Beacons; Aira Force in the Lake District; High Force in County Durham; and Hardraw Force and Ingleton Waterfall Trail both in the Yorkshire Dales.

Go Outdoors said: “Water, dampness, it’s sort of what the UK really excels at, so it’s no surprise we have such an abundance of stunning lakes, rivers and yes waterfalls.

“Waterfalls in films are often depicted as romantic, exotic locations (or the inevitable end to somebody being carried down a fast flowing river).

“We have some stunning waterfalls around the UK that you can visit, and some of them couldn’t be easier to reach.

“The best thing about waterfalls, is that they’re actually more impressive in the rain – so don’t let the great British weather hold you back.”
