The Totnes Skatepark Crowdfunding campaign has been live since May 6, with its target of £40k a lot closer than it was, but it still needs the town’s support and donations to achieve the target figure.
The figure in the Crowdfunder, as of Tuesday May 28, sat at £24k, and with three weeks left to run,
There is still a long way to go, and community support will be critical.
The money raised so far has come from individual contributions and £10k of match-funding from Sports England.
The facility comprises two main areas; The Street Facility and Flowbowl.
All routes around the skatepark are designed to link up when the facility is quiet, conversely, they can be used as separate, independent areas when the park is busy.
Subtly segregating the space into different zones will enable larger numbers of people to use the space at the same time, safely.
This facility has not been diluted in terms of features, flowlines and rolling space.
Both spaces will provide challenges for riders who are keen to attempt more technically difficult tricks on the elements within the design.
It will be built by Maverick Skateparks.
Simon French from The Totnes Skatepark Community Group said:
“There has been a great reaction from the local community so far, but we’re hoping the positivity turns into more pledges.
“We’ve had 155 supporters so far for the campaign, and with the adult population of Totnes being around 7500 people, we hope that a few more of those will pledge support for what is a critical project for the youth of our town.
“It won’t take many more people to donate to achieve the target figure, but all donations are needed, as the £10k Sports England grant money is completely reliant on us reaching the £40k target, otherwise, we lose it.”
With facilities for older children being so scarce in Totnes, and little funding available for these important schemes, it’s fundamental that local communities fight hard for what there is, and showing strong community support for projects is a huge part of that effort.”
