The A379 at Slapton Line is now open to the public again after Storm Emma washed it away almost eight months ago.

Vehicles were lined up on both ends of Slapton Line at Torcross and Strete Gate for more than an hour waiting to be some of the first to drive along the new road on Tuesday evening.

I was lucky enough to be able to hop in the car with Prawle Point Coastguard’s deputy station officer Gavin Angliss to capture Prawle Point and Dartmouth Coastguards crossing into each other’s patch on the coast for the first time in seven and a half months to mark the occasion.

Mother Nature decided to give everyone a show while they waited to drive across, as the skies turned a fluorescent pink and purple, making for a remarkable evening.

The official grand reopening is happening on Friday, October 26 at 11am at the Slapton Monument.

The video is of DSO Angliss and myself in the Coastguard’s truck and Dartmouth Coastguard rescue officers Chris Login and Jack Handley in the Coastguard’s truck behind us, leading the trail of cars along the new road and other cars coming from the other side.
