Youth nights have now kicked off at Dartmouth’s Fusion Leisure Centre.

This month saw the launch of Dartmouth Youth Group at the centre, with a roller disco and sports activities. In the coming months more will be added to the monthly Fusion nights, including an inflatable island for the swimming pool.

Cllr Jonathan Hawkins, of Devon and South Hams Councils, said: “After months of hard work, the launch of Dartmouth Youth Group took place at the leisure centre on the first Youth Night.

“Liz Mosley and her team of volunteers, working with Fusion and Devon County, welcomed over 40 young people to a night of music, lights and roller blades. There are many plans and exciting nights to come.

“With support from Dartmouth Town Council a night a week will soon start again in Ivy Lane too. Big thanks go to Liz, Ben and their team.”

The Youth Nights programme at Fusion is now on the second Friday of each month, with the next session on February 11. It’s free for the first two sessions and will then cost £2.50 for each session. The nights are supported with funding from Devon County Council.

Cllr Hawkins added: “We know how important it is for both the mental and physical health of young people that they’re able to engage in sport and fitness activities. We’re delighted to support this important initiative with our partners Fusion Lifestyle. We have also contributed £1,000 from our Devon County Council locality budget fund so these essential dates are now back on the calendar.”

A spokesperson for Fusion Lifestyle said the monthly programme, in partnership with the new Dartmouth Youth Group, aims to support young people to make a healthy lifestyle shift and engage with sports and physical activity.

Clare Bill, strategic development manager from Fusion Lifestyle, said “We’re delighted to offer young people in the community a place to have fun after school, to enjoy a new sport, to exercise or swim and meet new people. We’re very grateful for the support of everyone involved and look forward to welcoming lots of new faces.”
