South Hams Indoor Bowls Club enjoyed a mainly competitive set of games and overall was very successful by winning all of them.

The South Hams men played in the County Top Club competition against Honiton. The two-wood singles was won by Mike Mitchelmore 21-11, while the four-wood singles was won by Anthony Hammett 21-15.

Frank Senft and Matt Hammett won the pairs 22-17.

In the triples, Bill McKimm, John Harding and Barry Geldard lost 11-22, while in the fours Eric Williams, David Hurrell, Ron Elson and John Yeabsley drew on 17 shots apiece. Overall, then, it was a win for South Hams.

The men played a close match against Dawlish in the Devon Over 60s County Trophy league and achieved what was a close win overall.

At home, the rink of John Fowler, Richard Kerswell, John Hall and John Yeabsley led all the way and, despite losing seven shots with one end remaining, they still won 30-19.

Away, Eric Williams, Peter Caddy, Ron Elson and John Harding enjoyed an extremely close game throughout, eventually drawing 18-all. The other home rink of Bill McKimm, John Sherrard, Mike Mitchelmore and Chris Adams led for most of the game, but finally lost by three shots, 18-21.

Away, Frank Senft, Geoff Bulbulian, David Sherlock and Barry Geldard had a game of two halves. At 13 ends they were 16 shots down at 5-21. From then on, though, they won every end and finished with a close 18-22. The final scores was South Hams 84, Dawlish 80.

The ladies enjoyed a good game in the Foxlands Trophy against Dawlish, winning overall 80-72. At home, Val Harding, Jan Senft, Anita Elliott and Fran Ryan led throughout, winning 25-15. Also at home, Barbara Elson, Melly Dore, Margaret Dainton and Pat Janes also led throughout and won 23-18.

Away, both rinks lost, albeit in close games. Ivy Yeabsley, Tina Thomas, Pat Ramsay and Mavis Wellington were close all of the way, losing by just three shots, 13-16. Jane Foster, Marion Thorne, Brenda Welham and Lesley Crutchley were ahead for most of the game. Then, with four ends remaining, Dawlish took the lead and South Hams lost 19-23.

In a mixed friendly at home against Newton Abbot, South Hams had a good win with a final overall score of 93-61.

The top rink by far comprised Roy Wakeham, Tim Lewis, David Dain and Charlie Dunton, who won 28-9. Not far behind were Peter Irvine, Jim Balsdon, Glen Cross and Matt Hammett, who won 26-12.

It was another good win for Dan O’Carroll, Cyril Moore, John Sherrard and Trevor Edwards on 27-17. The only losing rink was Marion Thorne, Alan Bell, Richard Worsley and John Fowler, who lost 12-23.
