The ladies played a waltz stableford on Wednesday, putting them into teams of three, writes Liz Line.
The format was one score to count on the first hole, then two scores to count on the second and three scores to count on the third, and so on.
The winners were Elizabeth Hay (15), Elizabeth Sharman (18) and Linda Cant (19) with 32 points, from Janet Richardson (17), Gill Hicks (13) and Diane Baker (28) with 31.
In third place were Judith Lungmuss (19), Gill Markham (28) and Inger Reeve (25) with 30 points.
There was only one two by Shona Wilson on the sixth hole.
Conditions were horrific on Saturday for the Ladies Daily Mail qualifier, with unrelenting strong winds, which were also very cold, although it was reputed to be 12°C.
Everyone, though, battled on to the finish. Liz Hay had a great chip in from just off the green on the 16th, which then doubled their score on the back nine.
I am sure there were many other brilliant moments from any one of the players, but my reporter was not witness to them as it was taking such a supreme effort for her to keep body and soul together.
The winners were Liz Hay (15) and Liz Sharman (18) with 22 points, from Jennifer Roberts (3) and Judith Lungmuss (19) with 21 points. Third were Linda Cant (19) and Barbara Smith (18) with 17 points.
The scores reflect how bad the conditions were, so well done to Liz Hay and Liz Sharman, who go through to represent Thurlestone in the national competition of the Daily Mail Foursomes.
The juniors also had to endure Saturday’s weather conditions and in the Congu competition the winner was Alfie Messias (11) with 28 points, from juniors captain Finn Whelan (9), who scored 27 on countback from Ethan Bellamy (9).
In the nine-hole non-Congu, the winner was Aiden Mulligan with 11 points on countback from Louis Tollins. Third was Lockie Turner-Jones with 10 points and Yasmin Nixon, also on 10 points. Well done to all who braved the weather.
